Final Meeting

As school begins to wind down here, with our exams beginning next week we had our last team meeting before we meet again to go Nepal this past week. I learnt some more details of the trip which I would like to share with you all. I will be leaving on September 2nd from London, flying to Dehli and arriving in Nepal on the 3rd. When we arrive we have two days in Katmandu, where will be visiting at least two Childreach projects. One project which we may visit is Dhulikhel Hospital, which provides medical treatment as well as outreach programs to rural areas and schools and mother and child health camps which have helped 2,500 mothers and children to date.

On our 2nd day in Nepal we will try and fly from Katmandu to Lukla, the 'airport' from which we begin our trek. I will post a video in a little bit of Lukla airport and the type of plane we will be using to get there. The airport is surrounded by quite tricky terrain making it impossible to fly in even slightly bad weather so we have several contingency days, which we (fingers crossed) hopefully will not have to use! From our 5th to our 16th days we will be trekking both up to the base camp and back down to Lukla. By the 11th day we will have hopefully reached the base camp! It takes longer to go up than to come back down due to the altitude. We have some days where we do not gain much in terms of height however it is useful in terms of acclimatization. We heard some scary things about altitude sickness or acute mountain sickness during our team meeting, so fingers crossed our whole team gets lucky and no one suffers!!! Hopefully by the 21st we will be back in Katmandu and on the 22nd of September I will be back in London and heading back to University!!! Just wanted to keep you all updated with what's going on!
